Kolsay Lakes and Lake Kaindy are the pearls of the Northern Tien Shan.
Kolsay Lakes are located in the Kungey Alatau Mountains (South-Eastern Kazakhstan) at the altitude from 1829 up to 3170 m above sea level. They are distinguished by the unique mountain watershed consisting of three natural zones and amazing variety of rare plants and animals. It is one of the most beautiful places in Kazakhstan that is located about 300 km from Almaty. The Rriver Kolsay originates on a ridge of Kungey-Alatau and runs in turns into three coldwater lakes, such as Lower, Middle and Upper Kolsay, that flow through, canyon type, deep-water, small in surface area, with high water transparency. The temperature of water decreases with altitude. The water surface of the Kolsay Lakes, surrounded by flowering grasslands, majestic rocks and fir trees, forests of broad-leaves trees, mountain alpine meadows, is a species that will forever conquer and remain in the memory of everyone who has been here at least once. This is a great place for hiking and horseback riding. Each of the three lakes, located in the spurs of the Kungei-Alatau ridge, has a unique beauty and charm. The region has rich flora and fauna, and all the lakes have trout. Dark blue color of water, silence and calmness around are the specific features of Kolsay Lakes. It is a favorite place for mountain tourism. Trekking routes to Kolsay Lakes are very easy and fit even for amateurs. A suitable period for camping is from April to late September. Along the coast of Kolsay Lakes there are all kinds of guest houses, which always ready to accept those, who wish to have a rest at lakes. From windows of guest houses you can enjoy the view to extraordinary beautiful landscape of lake, and the evenings spent at a fireplace will be remembered to you for a long time. When the water is perfectly calm, it reflects the sky and the fascinating mountainous scenery: gorgeous Alpine landscape with forests, valleys and snowy peaks.
